LOCATION

Alto Melimoyu is located in the beautiful locality of La Junta, which is the northern entrance to the Chilean Patagonia. It lies on the Carretera Austral (Southern Highway), and is surrounded by the amazing Lake Ros selot National Reserve and it´s majestic evergreen forests.

TRAVEL

BY LAND


Coyhaique – La Junta: 270 km. (Aprox. 5 Hrs.)
Coyhaique to Cruce Puerto Cisnes (passing through Mañihuales and Villa Amengual) – 2.5 Hrs. on paved road in good condition, except for a 19 km. gravel stretch.
Cruce Puerto Cisnes to Puyuhuapi – 1 Hr. 45¨ on a curvy, narrow gravel road through the Queulat Park, getting better as you cross it.
Puyuhuapi to La Junta, – 45 min. on a gravel road in good condition.

Chaitén – La Junta: 150 km. (Aprox. 2 ½ Hrs.)
20 kms. of paved road and 130 of gravel in good condition, passing by Villa Santa Lucía and Villa Vanguardia.

Raúl Balmaceda – La Junta: 75 Km. (Aprox. 1 ½ Hrs.)
Crossing the Palena River by ferry, which only operates during the day, ask for the season hours.

Osorno – La Junta, crossing through Argentina: 800 km. (Aprox. 11 Hrs.)
Osorno to Bariloche throught the Cardenal Samoré Border Passage to Bariloche – 3.5 Hrs on paved road in good condition.
Bariloche to Esquel – 3.5 Hrs. on paved road in good condition.
Esquel to La Junta – 4 Hrs., the road goes by Trevelin, Futaleufú, Villa Santa Lucía. Gravel and paved stretches in good condition.

AIRWAY

      

Puerto Montt to Chaitén: 40 minute small plane ride

From Puerto Montt, head to the Santa Bárbara Airfield. There are Aerocord flights from Puerto Montt to Chaitén. From there, you start off by land.

Santiago to Coyhaique (Balmaceda): Aprox. 2 Hrs. 10¨, direct flight on LAN or SKY Airlines

From Balmaceda to Cayhaique it´s 55 km., aprox. 1 Hr of paved road in good condition, from there you start by land, Coyhaique – La Junta.

Puerto Montt to Coyhaique (Balmaceda): 45 minutes on LAN or SKY Airlines

From Balmaceda to Coyhaique it´s 55 km., aprox. 1 hour of paved road in good condition, from there you start by land, Coyhaique – La Junta.

SEAWAY

      

On the Naviera Austral Ferry, you get to Chaitén or Raúl Balmaceda, and from there you start by land.

Puerto Montt – Chaitén: year-round service, 9 to 10 hours.

Quellón – Chaitén: year-round service, 6 to 7 hours.
