Fine place to stay The Alto Melimoyu reminded me of a Swiss chalet. Rooms and bathrooms are large, clean and comfortable. Only complaints are somewhat of a musty smell in the bathroom and too-small windows that don’t maximize the wonderful views of surrounding snow capped mountains. Breakfast was hearty with fresh fruit. Staff speak little English. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, but the menu is pretty basic...crepes and the typically bad Chilean pizza. I strongly suggest walking next door to the Espacio y Tiempo for dinner, we ate there twice and it was wonderful. You might also consider the Espacio as a place to stay; it looks really nice although we didn’t see any of the rooms.

A welcome bit of luxury My grown son and I are just wrapping up a 17 day road/fly fishing trip through Patagonia. I can afford to stay anywhere but like to get of the beaten path when I travel. We have stayed in everything from AirBNB, backpacking, cabanas to hosterlias, and to land in this gem was wonderful. Nice, modern space with excellent amenities and warmth. Best shower I have had in South America, which after several weeks of low water pressure was a real treat.

Desayuno rico. Muy recomendable!

Details make the difference / Los detalles hacen la diferencia New and modern. Spacious roms and a very confortable bed. Food is very good, but it has so many details that made my stay miserable. To sart one of the night bed lights didn't work, one of the curtains could not be opened. I asked for a blanket which never arrived and the heating is on for a while. I asked them to take a look and it worked for a couple of hours so I assume they turn it off. The staff is willing to help but you can see that there is no one to make decision to improve service. There is never any one at the reception and the mobile phone posted there, no one answers. It is 4 in the morning and I am using my clothes for warmth in this cold room. Never coming back again. Moderno y nuevo.

Not everything was bad, but we wouldn't stay there again! We have chosen this hotel as we have read on bookings that they offer different services so we thought it would be a comfortable place and 80$ per night is a fair price for that. When we arrived, there was a man awaiting us. He was only speaking Spanish and didn't really made an effort to communicate with us (until now it was almost nowhere a problem to communicate with english, some words spanish, italian or french). After the quick check in he left the place and we realised that we are the only guests. There was almost no light in the house (we turned it on), it was very cold (not really heated) and the house was full of flies. In the second building with the reception, the door was wide open but nobody there. When we wanted to take a shower there was only cold water. We wanted to try in another room as all the room doors haven't been locked and we found a room which haven't been cleaned after the last guests and there were even some food rests in it! We felt like being in a haunted house! So we had to call the number we found at the door, but there was only the answering machine. We called the number in bookings and finally after 30min the man arrived and checked everything so that we had warm water and the heater was on. Furthermore, none of the services were available (restaurant, laundry etc). That's not really the way we like it on holiday. We know that now it's turning off season, but if they decide to keep open even for one guest they should do a good job or decide to close the hotel. The rooms and the location is quiet nice and maybe if it is running in high season really nice to stay. The price would be fair if everything would have been well. Breakfast was good. The only really good thing was the recommendation for the dinner next door which is really a wonderful place with wonderful people. We realized that it is a huge difference if an owner is running his hotel himself or not!
